Meet the E2

A Desktop 3D Printer from Raise3D

The E2 is a desktop 3D printer with independent dual extruders (also known as IDEX). IDEX gives the E2 the ability to perform more advanced functions, such as Mirror Mode and Duplication Mode, making this printer ideal for professional 3D printing. This IDEX 3D printer features Easy Swap Print Heads for added convenience when performing maintenance or routine printing tasks. The E2’s Auto Bed Leveling and BuildTak FlexPlate are user-friendly features that contribute to producing a high-quality 3D-printed parts. This desktop 3D printer can print with a variety of different filaments, and its unique extruder gear design enables it to use flexible 3D printing materials, such as TPU, more reliably and with better results. As with all 3D printers from Raise3D, the E2 can pair with ideaMaker, a 3D slicer software, ideaMaker Library, a platform for sharing 3D printer files with those in the Raise3D community, and RaiseCloud, a cloud-based 3D printing management platform.

Printer Details

The E2 desktop 3D printer can print up to 13×9.4×9.4inches |330x240x240mm.

This build volume allows the E2 to produce various kinds of high-quality parts, and components.

3D printed parts of this size are generally used for small-batch manufacturing, engineering, and education.

If this build volume is too small, refer to the Pro2, a dual extruder 3D printer, and the Pro2 Plus, a large format 3D printer

What is a desktop 3D printer?

Desktop 3D printers generally have a smaller build volume and produce smaller, high-quality 3D printed parts. The size of the actual desktop 3D printer is not very large. The actual machine can fit on the desk next to a computer.

What is a desktop 3D printer used for?

Desktop 3D printers are generally excellent options for small-batch manufacturing, engineering, and education.

The nature of some projects requires 3D printed parts of a smaller size. Since desktop 3D printers have a smaller build volume, they are ideal for any project whose sizing requirements will remain on a small scale for the long-term.

What Makes the E2 a Professional Desktop 3D Printer?

Professional 3D printers, like the E2, are well-built and designed to be user-friendly, resulting in a better 3D printing experience for every application and user.

What is IDEX? Why is IDEX important?

IDEX stands for independent dual extruders, meaning the extruders can operate independently of one another along the same axis during printing to perform more advanced functions.

The E2 is a desktop 3D printer with IDEX. With IDEX, one extruder can remain motionless and off to the side while the second extruder prints the model, minimizing the risk of the nozzle on the motionless extruder interfering with the print job during dual or single extrusion printing.

What are Mirror Mode and Duplication Mode? Why are These Functions Important?

IDEX can perform two specialized functions, Mirror Mode and Duplication Mode.

Mirror Mode prints a model and an inverse of that same model at the same time. It is convenient because it eliminates the need to create an additional design file for the inverse model, and it saves the time that is usually spent printing the inverse model separately.

Duplication Mode is synchronized printing, meaning it uses both extruders to print a model and an exact copy of that model at the same time. It can double production capacity within the same timeframe.

What are Easy Swap Print Heads? And Why are They Important?

Easy Swap Print Heads are a convenient feature of the E2. These print heads are easy to remove, making it simple and quick to swap out a print head for another print head. There are a variety of reasons why swapping print heads is necessary, such as having to use a print head with a different type of nozzle.

Any spare Easy Swap Print Heads can easily be prepared with hardened nozzles, and nozzles of different sizes, such as 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 nozzles to switch in a few steps and get back to printing.

What is Auto Bed Leveling? And Why is it Important?

A level bed is an important contributor to the quality of the final printing result. Bed leveling is the process of testing and confirming that the printing platform is completely level before beginning to print. It can be a time-consuming process to ensure this.

However, user-friendly 3D printers, like the E2, feature Auto Bed Leveling. Auto Bed Leveling uses a sensor to measure the distance between the printing bed and the nozzle at different locations of the bed and uses this information to adjust the nozzle to make sure the right distance between the bed and the nozzles is maintained during printing. This means the extruder can adjust to minor surface contour changes, resulting in improved bed adhesion a better final print quality.

What is a Flexible Build Plate? And Why is It Important?

A build plate is a flat surface that temporarily adheres to the bottom layer of the model during the printing. It is also the surface that an adhesive is applied to when printing with certain filaments. At times, prints may get damaged when being removed from the build plate.

The E2 features the BuildTak FlexPlate, a flexible build plate. The BuildTak FlexPlate bends, allowing for easy removal of 3D printed parts, minimizing potential damage that may occur to the final print when removing the print from the plate. The flexible build plate can also quickly regain its original shape to continue printing.

What is the Camera? And Why is it Important?

The E2 features a camera to monitor the entire 3D printing process of every print job. This camera operates by connecting to RaiseCloud allowing users to keep track of every print job remotely. The ability to check the 3D printing process gives peace of mind.

What Safety Features Come with the E2 Desktop 3D Printer?

Power Loss Recovery

Both a power outage and a filament outage (when the filament runs out) can cause a print job to be lost if they occur in the middle of the 3D printing process. However, the E2 has a filament run-out sensor on its extruders to alert when the filament is about to run out, and save the print job. It also has a power loss function to save its place and continue printing in the event of a power outage.

Automatic Detection

Another safety feature of the E2 is that it can automatically detect when a door is opened and will immediately pause the print.

The E2 is compatible with a variety of 3D printing materials (known as filaments) to meet project requirements

Depending on the project goals, more than one 3D printing filament may be necessary to accommodate varying structural or functional requirements (some such requirements include flexibility, and strength). Sometimes multiple filaments are required within the same print job. Having a 3D printer that is compatible with different filament types is both cost-saving and practical for print jobs requiring multiple filaments.

The full metal frame acts as a reliable motion system for smooth movement and precise positioning for higher quality printing

High-quality 3D printing comes from high-quality 3D printers. The E2 desktop 3D printer uses a full metal frame to create a specific motion system that allows the machine to smoothly glide as it prints. This motion system works with precise positioning to ensure 3D print jobs are as accurate as possible.

HEPA air filtration removes toxic particles released during the 3D printing process

The E2 desktop 3D printer has HEPA air filtration to clean the air of any particles (including nano-particles) released during the 3D printing process. The HEPA air filter works effectively in classrooms, offices, and in large and small workspaces. The E2’s HEPA air filtration operates silently, designed to work quietly in the background of any workspace.

Use a 7-inch touch screen for efficiency and monitor the printing process with 3D printing software

The E2 includes a camera that monitors the entire 3D printing process. This camera operates by connecting to RaiseCloud to allow users to keep track of every print job while on the move. This desktop 3D printer also features a 7-inch touch screen enabling users to interact with the printer directly. The touch screen also provides on-screen assistance and visual model selections to simplify operating and monitoring the 3D printer and 3D printing process. Finally, as with all Raise3D 3D printers, the E2 is compatible with ideaMaker, a 3D slicing software, and RaiseCloud, a cloud-based 3D printing management platform.
